After becoming champions for the very first time, Bayer Leverkusen Bundesliga is set to take on the new season and defend their title with confidence after retaining most of the players who helped them to the championship last season.
Patrik Schick was the hero of last season’s glory, converting on a pass from Alejandro Grimaldo to even the score just before the final whistle which would open the door for Leverkusen to win the shootout 4-3.
Coach Alonso still has key players like Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Hradecky and Robert Andrich along for the ride and they will be joined by new signings like Aleix Garcia from Girona and Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian from Stade Rennes.
“Just like last year, Bayer have a small advantage over the competition,” said former Bayern and Germany player Lothar Matthäus, according to DW.
“But the new season won’t be a walk in the park.”
